Girona Cathedral was built on the same spot of the Roman forum and the romanesque cathedral of Girona, and between the 14th and 17th centuries. The main characteristic of this temple, of huge dimensions, is the vastness of its single nave, in Gothic style. Although the church was originally conceived with three naves, in 1417, the risky decision to carry on with just a single nave was taken, a daring constructive move for that period. The result was a single nave which, almost 23 metres wide, is the only widest Gothic nave in the world.
