A cross between a historical-archaeological park and a museum, the Citadel has witnessed the passage of civilisations that made Roses what it is today. Since it was founded by traders from the island of Rhodes in 776 BC, various ages have gone by, each one building on the previous layers to create this unique space that is now a national-interest cultural landmark.

The history of Roses is written in each stone of the vestiges that remain at the site, and also in the Citadel Museum, a modern building along the eastern wall of the complex. It is located in the vicinity of the perimeter that also features the majestic gate through which you go beyond the limits of time and space.

You will reach an expansive lobby with huge openings through which you can contemplate the enclosure. This is the point that serves as the nerve centre for the three areas of the historic site: the citadel itself, the museum and the multi-purpose exhibition hall.
