Montseny Natural Park
Set in the inland area of the southern part of the Costa Brava, Montseny is the largest and highest massif of the Catalan pre-littoral mountain range, a stone's throw from Barcelona and Girona.
One of the main values of the massif is the extreme variability of the environments it has, as a result of the significant changes in altitude and of vegetation as well as the diversity of its relief. Holm oak woods and pine forests, cork oak woods, oak groves and beech forests are some of the systems that make up the basically forest landscape.
Another of the aspects to be taken into account is the role that Montseny has as a refuge for many animal species typical of environments with a higher latitude.
