At the beginning of the 1970s, the villages of Monells, Cruïlles and Sant Sadurní de l'Heura joined together and administratively adopted the name of the latter. In this new extended municipality, you can find an attractive variety of landscapes and monuments.

Monells is a village divided into two urban centres: on one side, the Castell neighbourhood, where there is the old residence of the Lords of Cruïlles and on the other side, the Riera neighbourhood, with the church of Sant Genís, with a Gothic structure and a Baroque façade. We should mention the porticoed town square, with characteristic arches with a low shape and irregular in size.

Cruïlles was a town surrounded by walls, which are partially preserved; in the centre you can still see the church. The truly interesting part of this centre is in the 11th century monastery, with Romanesque characteristics and with an important number of features from the period, that are currently in the Art Museum of Girona.
