Walter Benjamín Memorial

Photo of Walter Benjamín Memorial in Portbou

In memory of Walter Benjamín (Berlin 1892 - Portbou 1940) and of the Europeans in exile from 1933 to 1945, Dani Karavan created the Memorial “Passagen”. Using abstract shapes and the natural roughness of the Catalan Pyrenees, the artist inscribed a sign on the landscape that enables one to come closer to the situation of existential threat experienced by the emigrants of the 20th century that, at the same time, projects into the future a cry for tolerance and comprehension beyond borders. A permanent exhibition at the Casa Herrero Civil Centre. Guided trip (Líster route) Portbou-Banyuls. Portbou Mountain.
