MARAM, the Fish Interpretation Centre, is an initiative of the Fishermen’s Guild of L’Escala aimed at fostering the culture of fish, explaining the way of life and work of fishermen, encouraging responsible fishing and transmitting respect for the environment, in particular the marine environment.

The Fishermen's Guild of L’Escala is a pioneering organisation in several aspects, two of the most important of which are the setting up of an online fish auction site and the creation of the Fish Interpretation Centre. These two special initiatives, in addition to the responsible fishing carried out by the Guild in an extraordinary setting, make this a unique and pioneering project in Spain.

MARAM is located close to important historic, geological, botanical and marine assets, such as the protected areas of the Aiguamolls de l’Empordà Natural Park, the coastal dunes of Sant Martí d’Empúries, and the Montgrí, Medes and Baix Ter Natural Park, which constitute key resources and tools for studying the area.

With the aim of providing the project with activities and resources, this facility will be devoted to fostering environmental education through guided tours, short courses, seminars, hiring out of rooms, etc.
