Cork Museum of Palafrugell
The Cork Museum, located in the centre of Palafrugell, is dedicated to the interpretation and dissemination of local heritage and of the areas related to the cork industry in Catalonia. The museum's first exhibit is the building itself, a factory in the Catalan modernist style designed by General Guitart and built between 1900 and 1907. It currently contains several exhibition areas of the museum, structured around a small cork oak forest.
The museum offers visitors some insight into cork oak forests, cork, its artisan and industrial exploitation for the manufacture of a wide variety of products and (through an audio-visual presentation) the amazing history of what was the largest cork factory in Spain and one of the most important in the world. You can always find a reason to make a return visit to the museum. Keep up to date with what's on in the temporary exhibition area and the events hall, along with the activities and workshops organised for children or families. And if you also wish to purchase something, don’t miss the museum store with cork products.
Discover as well this Catalan modernist-style water tower, completed in 1905, situated in the former Can Mario cork factory, which over time has become a real symbol of identity for Palafrugell and its skyline, as well as a notable feature of Catalan industrial heritage, thanks to its structure and artistic worth.
